Opening Ceremony
As the CamJam 2011 Opening Ceremony begun, hordes of Scouts and Guides from the Sub-camps came in dressed smartly, for the most part, in full uniform. They all trundled in waving flags and chanting their songs.
In sincere respect for the terror attack in Norway the entire crowd fell silent for a 1 minute silence. Not a soul could be heard which really shone through the compassion of Scouting.
And then at once the festivities began with a cute performance of Bon Jovi’s - Run Away by Kiera from Yaxley. Her performance got the crowd clapping to the soft beat as she sang. After that heart warming song an Explorer Scout, Matt, was invested into the World Wide Family of Scouting followed by a hearty applause as he was welcomed again into Scouting.

The next act was a wonderful dance performance by 3 girls, Amy, Rebecca and Ellie May, from the Sidcup Guide group. Bumping along to the “Party Rock Anthem” the girls gave a spirited but unusual performance as two girls paired performing in a duo as another kept the beat pulling off moves including the “worm”.
In between acts the, Camp Chief and County Commissioner, Richard Hames gave an inspiring speech by most importantly keeping the crowd roaring back at him whilst he spoke of how fantastic it is to have all the international groups here completing the “One World” ethic. To tail of his speech he shared his thanks of the wonderful staff support especially from the Admin and Site Support along with thanking the racecourse for their continued support.

Team Talent, the organisers of CamJam got talent, took to the stage and gave a wonderfully ironic performance of Greatest Day by Take That. Of course, all in good spirit to show how they really want anyone and everyone to give a good performance of their talent and express themselves. Their performance got everyone in the crowd swinging their neckers above their heads in a fantastic visualisation of the involvement and excitement of Scouting and Guiding.
The penultimate performance was another brilliant group dancers called “The Movement” including Andy, 17, Kelly, 17, Asher, 20 – who was in the Street Dance movie – and Camal also 17. They gave a fantastic performance as they in turn did some exciting freestyle dance to a whole range of popular song.

The final act began as a small group and new dancers performed routines to “I’m Working my Way Back to You” and “I’m Still Standing” while many of the Groups headed off back to their subcamps dancing, singing and smiling as they went.
